The GI tract holds the key to health and beauty or aging

* Metchnikoff, a bacteriologist and the Nobel laureate in Physiology and Medicine of 1908, proposed that health of the GI tract leads to overall fitness of the human body. Many toxin-producing saprophytic bacteria live in the GI tract and may threaten to shorten human lifespan. Lactic acid bacterial can replace such toxic strains and maintain a healthy digestive capacity. A toxin-free GI tract will make human healthy and long-living.
* Dr. Tomotari Mitsuoka, Emeritus Professor of University of Tokyo proposed the concept of “Age of Intestinal Tract”, stating that “intestinal environment is the fundamental factor for the ecology of intestinal microflora. By keeping the ecology of intestinal flora at a young age, health and longevity will then follow.” What “Age of Intestinal Tract” means is basically the percentage of intestinal probiotics and harmful bacteria in the intestinal tract. People with younger intestines will have better body functions!
The situations
* Colon cancer is ranked the fourth after the Lung, Stomach and Liver cancer in the record of World Health Organization. The incidence of colorectal cancer is closely associated with the high intake of animal fats, refined diets, obesity, smoking, drinking and insufficient fiber intake.
* Gastrointestinal symptoms and diseases increase with aging. According to the study, 20 % of death results directly from the digestive system in age of over 70 groups. The incidence is second only to cardiovascular diseases as the cause of death, and numerically only a little less.
* Constipation is a major medical problem and it affects 2%~28% of its population, and it is the most common digestive complaint in the United States.

Widely influencing our life quality
Constipation is the cause of many ailments. Even stomach, liver and kidney disorder, skin eruption, spots and various eczematous conditions may also originate from constipation or irregular bowel movements.

Understanding the life cycle of human intestinal microbes
The intestinal tract of newborns is bacteria-free. After about 24-hours, the bacteria count in the feces will be over 100 billions CFU/g, and the environment will reach equilibrium approximately one week after birth. It will form infant intestinal bacteria flora, which mainly consists of Bifidobacteria. After the weaning period, the intestinal bacteria flora in babies will start to look like adults. When food supplements are introduced into baby’s diet, the type and quantity of intestinal bacteria flora will start to stabilize and look like adult intestinal bacteria flora even more. Once entering the elderly stage, the most significant change is the huge drop in Bifidobacteria; while Clostridium rises considerably. This type of intestinal bacteria flora is called aging of intestinal tract, which is also observed in young people with atypical lifestyles, high-pressure jobs and unbalanced diets.

Imbalance of intestinal bacteria flora will lead to various diseases
As the intestinal tract ages, defecation is disturbed and intestinal toxins will accumulate inside the body, causing all kinds of intestine-related diseases and affecting the health condition of the whole body. Numerous medical studies point out that aged intestinal tracts and imbalanced intestinal bacteria flora will likely increase the risk of most adult diseases, such as arteriosclerosis, senile dementia, and malignant tumors. Body functions will deteriorate rapidly as health depletes.

Standards for quality probitoics
* Proof of “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States
* The probiotic activity can be retained in storage
* Stability during the manufacturing processes
* Tolerance toward gastric acids and choline
* Absorbability to the epithelial cells of the host
* Tolerance toward antibiotics
* Resistance to other microbes
